Youth Development Task Force

On December 11, 2019, the Council approved the establishment of the Youth Development Task Force charged with formulating a Citywide Youth Development Strategy (Council File No. 16-0596-S1). In formulating the Strategy, the Youth Development Task Force may seek to review and advise the City on the following matters:

  • Increasing and improving collaboration between City departments, community-based organizations, and other agencies serving youth;

  • Establishing performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of youth programs;

  • Increasing the number of youths who are connected to services that address their underlying needs; and

  • Establishing a new department or commission/office within an existing department.

The Department of Recreation and Parks, the Mayor's Gang Reduction and Youth Development Office, the Housing and Community Investment Department, the Police Department, and other relevant City departments have been designated to provide subject matter expertise to the Youth Development Task Force.



Youth Development Task Force


The Youth Development Task Force consists of nine members:

  • Five members representative of City youth programs are as follows:

    • One member appointed by the Chair of the Council’s Health, Education, Neighborhoods, Arts, Parks and River Committee;
    • One member appointed by the Chair of the Council’s Public Works and Gang Reduction Committee;
    • One member appointed by the Chair of the Council’s Economic Development Committee; and
    • Two members appointed by the Chair of the Council’s Public Safety Committee.

  • Four members representative of key stakeholders are as follows:

    • Two members between the ages of 16 and 24, one each appointed by the Mayor and Council President respectively; and
    • Two members, one each appointed by the Mayor and Council President respectively, with said members being the parent/guardian of a child under the age of 21.

Upon appointment, the Youth Development Task Force may convene and initiate the formulation of the Citywide Youth Development Strategy.
